Tonight was the private view of Irish born, London based artist Conor Harrington‘s solo exhibition ‘Watch Your Palace Fall’ at Pace Gallery. The event had new works from Conor and also saw the launch of the book of the same name by Heni Publishing. The large scale canvases and studies showcase the trademark style of the artist which draws a fine line between urban and contemporary art. Bold, colourful images of men from past centuries, intricately to perfection only to be deconstructed with the aid of solvents, drips or layers of paint. This body of work is very vibrant which I haven’t really seen much in his earlier and street work.
“These paintings are a nod to political deceit, the lies and half truths told to assume a role and gain power, the prevalence of social media selves at the expense of the real self and the graffiti alter ego, acquiring a pseudonym and hiding your true identity.” – Conor Harrington, August 2016.
‘Watch Your Palace Fall’ is on now at Pace Gallery until the 9th of October. Book signing is on the 2nd of October 11:30 am – 2 pm. Address: 6-10 Lexington Street, W1F 0LB, London. Nearest tube station: Piccadilly Circus.
